How We Got Started
Desert Race School was developed over decades of racing. Ron Stobaugh started racing in Baja and the Southwest US in the early 90's, winning Baja races and Championships along the way. Shannon Boothe began racing in the mid-90's, and soon moved to the right seat, becoming an accomplished and race winning navigator. Eventually, the two crossed paths, and Shannon became Ron's regular co-pilot/navigator, winning many Baja races together.
In 2005, Ron's son Austin began going to races and soon realized his dad and Shannon were always taking newcomers to races and teaching them how to go racing or provide pit support in a safe and fun process. It was Austin who suggested a "school", and Desert Race School was born in 2007. Today, Ron, Shannon and Austin still run and continue to develop Desert Race School, helping many Avoid The School of Hard Knocks.
